Andrej Grozdanov was born in Rijeka, a port town on the Adriatic coast, Republic of Croatia. In his early days he showed interest for music. For three years he took private piano lessons. In his teenage years he “discovered” the guitar. He was delighted with the guitar sound, especially with the electric guitar sound. After some years of playing, in his twenties, he passed an audition at one of the best schools for modern music “Guitar Institute of Technology GIT, Musicians Institute (MI)” which was at that time located in London, UK. Andrej graduated with the “Platinum diploma”. The GIT not only produced many good players (Jennifer Batten, Keb’ Mo, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Paul Gilbert…), but it offered Andrej a privilege to study with the best teachers. His mentor was Pete Langman, an eccentric English guitar virtuoso (for a long time the Guitar Player columnist), while his other great guitar teachers were: John Abercrombie, Frank Gambale, Michael Angelo, Hugh Burns (George Michael), Pierre Bensusan, and Eric Roche.
Besides learning from guitar players, Andrej had a great honor to have rhythm lessons (which are important for rhythmic guitar playing) with Bernard Purdie and Thomas Lang, great drummers. After Andrej had returned to Croatia, in the year 2003, he received a Master’s degree in Theology and Philosophy at one of the top universities in the country.
As a guitar player mostly recognized in CCM genre, Andrej played on more than 200 songs which appear on albums recorded live or in the studio. Together with his international experience Andrej helped progress of CCM genre in the country and therefore he is regarded by many as true pioneer of CCM. His audience extends from intimate acoustic concerts in front of 25-30 people to full band stadium size venues of 25-30.000 people. It is great chance that Andrej played guitars on favourite songs of CCM in the country. Andrej has also worked with many GRAMMY winners and nominees like Hillsong, Matt Redman, Delirious?, Michael W. Smith, London Community Gospel Choir and many others. On his last album Andrej played with Phil Keaggy, Vlatko Stefanovski, Martin Moro and John Steowell, all of them being great names in global guitar world.
